Bayern Munich have work to do if they are to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after Ciro Immobile’s penalty gave Lazio a 1-0 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Having been well beaten by Bundesliga title rivals Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, Bayern were looking for a positive response on their return to European action, but Dayot Upamecano’s red card for a wild challenge on Gustav Isaksen in the second half proved the turning point in a game Thomas Tuchel’s side appeared to be in control of.

After Harry Kane and Leroy Sane had gone close to putting Bayern in front before half-time, the ever-reliable Immobile made no mistake from the spot with just over 20 minutes to go to give the Italians a crucial lead ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena on March 5.
