Frankie Dettori will serve a 16-day ban for whip offences on Trawlerman and Kinross on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot.

The Italian jockey will miss the Melbourne Cup, with the ban starting on November 7.

Dettori steered Trawlerman to victory in the Long Distance Cup on Saturday and finished second aboard Kinross in the Champions Sprint, behind Art Power.

Dettori, who waved goodbye to British racing at Ascot as he prepares to move to the USA next year, was ruled to have gone once above the permitted level of six on both Trawlerman and Kinross, earning an eight-day suspension for each.

He will be suspended from November 7 to 11, November 13 to 18 and November 20 to 24.

David Allan and Sam James were also penalised for winning rides on Champions Day.

Allan picked up an eight-day ban for going one above the permitted level on Champions Sprint winner Art Power and will be banned on November 4, November 6 to 11 and November 13.

James has been referred to the British Horseracing Authority’s (BHA) judicial panel after picking up his fifth suspension in the previous six months for his ride on Champions Fillies & Mares winner Poptronic.
